Combos c Arqhili - The Arghilian Language

The Lingual- and Anti-Lingual Academy (LaLA)

The Lingual- and Anti-Lingual Academy (LaLA) was established to ensure that the Arghilian language maintains its original form, allowing changes only when necessary to prevent its original essence from being lost or forgotten.

It was founded in AT 2052 by Frijhidien Late.

Grammar of Combos c Arqhili/Arghili

The Arghilian language, formerly known as Arqhilienien (Combos c arqhili/arghili), is structured around four fundamental pillars or major rules:

Pillar 1: Word Class Connections

There is an inherent connection between different classes of words:

  • From a verb (frohlings), a noun (fihlingos) can be created using an -aos or -eas ending.
  • From a noun, an adjective (frapot'luks) can be formed with an -i ending.
  • Similarly, names can be derived from nouns using an -ian or -ien ending. This often means that names themselves function as adjectives.

Pillar 2: Inflection (Vas c Arghili)

Inflection is exclusive to the verb 'to be' (hason). For example:

Igzuk (or: Xyk) has dean Combos c arqhili (Meaning: "I [can] speak the Arghilian language")

Note: The example implies 'can' through context or the uninflected 'has'.

Pillar 3: Numbers, Pronouns, and Articles

Numbers and pronouns are essentially modified nouns, typically formed by removing an original -naosian or -neosien ending. There are no exceptions to this.

The Arghilian language does not use definite ('the') or indefinite ('a', 'an') articles. These concepts are represented by the particle 'c' (which can also mean 'of').

Pillar 4: Tense Formation

Future and present tenses are constructed based on the inflection (or lack thereof) of the verb hason ('to be' / 'has').

  • Present Tense: Pronoun + has (uninflected) + Verb
Example: Xyk has [verb] (I have/do [verb])
  • Future Tense: Pronoun + Inflected hason + Verb
    • Xyk has (I will)
    • Pdfk hasten (You [singular/formal] will)
    • Zgxyik has (He/She/It will)
    • Xyki hos (We will)
    • Pdfki hòs (You [plural/informal] will)
    • Zgxyiki hés (They will)
    (Followed by the main verb)
  • Past Tense: Pronoun + Inflected hason (past form, not explicitly detailed but implied) + c + Verb
